I am Sahana Jayaraman, a high school student. I started SriAnna.org, a foundation in memory of my great-grandfather Sri Anna who dedicated his life to educating the underprivileged. The purpose of the foundation is to raise funds to support the education and other critical needs of underprivileged and special-needs children in the local community as well as worldwide.

Sri Anna studied at an orphanage school as his parents could not afford to send him to college. He grew to be a great educator, humanitarian, prolific writer and a spiritual leader in his community. He dedicated his life to educating disadvantaged and underprivileged kids. He first served as a teacher in the orphanage he studied, then as it’s principal, and finally as its administrator till his death at the age of 98. He authored and published more than 100 books and donated all the royalty from the books to the orphanage.

I heard stories about my great-grandfather, Sri Anna, from my parents and got inspired by his self-less life. When I visited India, I interviewed several people spanning three generations and collected a dozens of documents about his life and wrote a biography about him titled,“As We Cherish”

I was moved by the scenes of poor children begging for food in the streets of Chennai during one of my trips to India. I cried out of disbelief. When I visited the Eden Autism Center in Princeton, NJ, I heard the story of a grandmother seeking help to have her grandchild undergo early evaluation for autism. She could not afford to pay for it and the child’s mother was a recovering drug addict. Only if she get her grandchild evaluated, she can apply for New Jersey State assistance for the treatment and support. These experiences left an indelible mark in my young mind and I made helping the underprivileged children as a personal goal. I decided to start the SriAnna.org SriAnna.org foundation in my great-grandfather’s memory to continue his legacy. It was formally established in 2010.

Our Mission:

The mission of SRIANNA.ORG, a non-profit organization is to honor the legacy of Sri ANNA N. Subramanian by helping to educate the needy and the special-needs/disadvantaged children and to bring hope in their lives.

Help us Help-a-Child - A-Penny-a-Day Project:

Did you know that a penny a day can help in the education of a child? A-penny-a-day amounts to $3.64 cents a year. In some countries this can help buy one text book for a child for the entire year of education. If we find five such people who can donate $3.64 per year, it becomes a bit more than $15 which helps to buy a text book in India for one child for a year. We have started a-penny-a-day drive to help disadvantaged children with their educational needs. We request you to donate $4.00 per year (rounded to account for Paypal service fee) in support of this drive.

Your donations go to supporting the educational needs of diasadvantaged low-income and special-needs children worldwide. Please see our recipients list
